How do I become a First Aid trainer?
If you wish to initially deliver Emergency First Aid at Work the simple answer is to attend one of our 2-day Provider Induction Events and let us take you through the steps required.
If you initially wish to deliver one of our environment specific first aid qualifications such as Outdoor First Aid or Paediatric First Aid then contact ITC directly by email or phone to determine suitability of the programme for your needs. We operate a personal mentor system for gaining accreditation to deliver these ITC qualifications, initial application is by a personal letter of application (ITC document code LA1) provided by the ITC Office after inital early dialogue. There is often a waiting list in operation.
When you attend one of our progammes you are in the hands of one of the leading organisations in the UK for supporting individuals and businesses delivering recognised first aid training to their own clients. For an informal intial chat contact or visit ITC for the dates, venue or development programme that interest you.
In addition before delivering ITC qualifications you have to meet certain sector and ITC criteria (ITC document code PR3), including providing a copy of a current First Aid at Work certificate and meeting a threshold adult education qualification (minimum requirement is a PTLLS certificate).
Why do I have to attend the 2-day course?
Only organisations are approved to deliver recognised first aid courses in the UK, Firsit Aid Providers or Instuctors must be associated with an organisation. The 2-day ITC Provider Induction Programme is a requirement of ITC Awarding Organisation procedures.
Organisations are approved by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) for the purpose of delivering First Aid at Work and given an HSE approval number (Immediate Temporary Care HSE approval 1670/96). Third parties belonging to the HSE approved organisation may be able to offer Emergency First Aid at Work (1-day), First Aid at Work (3-day) or FAW Refresher (2-day) courses.
Organisations can become Awarding Organisations accredited by the Official Regulator of Qualification in England Wales and Northern Ireland (OfQual) and the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). Providers and Centres approved by the Awarding Body can offer courses from the Qualification Framework of accredited qualifications.
The Induction course is a necessary entry event in order to access the ITC Emergency First Aid at Work qualification. Please note that only Awarding Organisations have the facility enable you to deliver EFAW (1-day) courses without you also having to deliver 6 full FAW (3-day) courses. If you are a 3rd party of a HSE approved organisation you have to deliver 6 full FAW even if you only wish to deliver 2 or 3 EFAW per year.
Who are ITC?

You will attend regular standardisation and regional update events and have the assurance of knowing that they have followed the same stringent ITC procedures as you before being accredited.
Why use ITC?
ITC has national credibility in more than one sector. It is one of a select few companies that have OfQual, SQA and HSE recognition status. Unlike many organisations supporting First Aid training organisations ITC do not directly deliver First Aid training (Immediate Temporary Care delivers 6-8 FAW courses as a condition of HSE approval). Therefore all leads or enquiries generated by a national presence are passed on to Providers and Centres across the UK. Indeed the ITC website provides free advertising for all Providers and their training courses.
ITC has been supporting Providers and Centres since last century and offers a regular free programme of professional development events, internal verification opportunities, quarterly newsletter, technical updates, a national network of trained supportive first aid trainers, local Senior Trainers for advice, office hours support and Trainers resource package. We believe it to be the best package of its type in the country.
Our dynamic and practiacl scenario based training and environment specific qualifications are effective and a pleasure to deliver. Candidates enjoy the courses and are much more likely to return with repeat and word of mouth business.
What are the benefits for me?
Becoming an approved ITC first aid training provider can be the first step to a well paid and highly engaging profession, ITC will support you and your business in all aspects not just first aid course content and certification. What are the costs to me?
The Induction process will cost £490 (+ vat if the provider is vat registered). Once accredited to deliver any ITC first aid qualification then candidate packs will cost you £12.50 per candidate.
ITC is a small business that believes in linking reward to efforts and developing quality for all concerned with ITC. We could have developed an approval system similar to many others where we would charge a fee and essentially leave you with little individual support to get on with running your own business. However we have developed a quality, supportive accreditation system where you benefit from a personal mentor who is paid directly by you. It is their job to get you delivering quality training, not only meeting minimum standards but aspiring for you to be the best you can be in this sector. You and that individual mentor negotiate a path to meet your needs.
Once you have verifiably demonstrated that you can organise (venue/candidates) and deliver (train, assess and use appropiorate documents) an ITC qualification you are then an approved provider and ITC will look after your needs from that point onwards. The £12.50 fee is attached to each candidate and it covers all ITC services.
Unlike other organisations just about everything else we do is extremely valuable but FREE to the user. The candidate pack fee covers our costs for:
Certification and awarding

Regular continuous professional development events
External Verification and support from experienced ITC Providers for all ITC Providers

Have you further information documents?
As an accredited organisation ITC has all procedures documented. We believe the aspiring ITC First Aid Provider will find the following ITC documents particulary useful:
S1 A flowchart with explanation of ITC Provider Approval Procedures
PR1 New Provider Approval Overview
PR3 Criteria for new ITC Providers
PP1 Procedures after initial approval and accreditation

I have clients now and cannot wait until I am accredited to deliver, what do I do?
As soon as they have attended an ITC Induction event all new ITC Providers may advertise any ITC qualification, use ITC logos and expertise. They must employ an ITC Provider who is acredited to deliver the particular qualification. ITC will provide name and contact details of local Providers who have asked to be considered for working for new Providers in these circumstances.
It is exactly what any business accredited by ITC may choose to do when it is successful and oversubscribed or key triainers are on holiday.
